Incredible footage has captured the moment a baby was born on the side of a highway in New Jersey.
On Sunday, May 21, troopers Michael Morreale, Ryan Van Arsdale, and Anthony Makhnin were called to the Interstate I-287 in Bridgewater, Somerset County, following reports of a female passenger in labor.
The officers rushed to the scene but as soon as they arrived, it was clear the woman was going to have to give birth on the side of the road. Without hesitation, Trooper Morreale took control and got to work delivering the baby.
Bodycam footage shows the troopers meeting the soon-to-be parents on the highway. The woman is crouched on all fours, groaning in pain, while her partner, looking slightly shell-shocked, introduces himself to the cops.
Trooper Morreale asks the woman her name and reassures her he is going to help her. Moments later, Morreale is holding the tot in his hands, having delivered him safely despite the rain, the darkness, and the dramatic conditions.
“He’s here!”, Morreale exclaims, but due to the awkward position of the mother, the umbilical cord becomes wrapped around the baby. Morreale and Van Arsdale are careful to re-position mom and baby to prevent any harm.
“Is he okay?”, asks the mother nervously, to which the troopers reply, “He’s okay!” The father can be seen searching the boot of the car for a blanket or jacket to wrap the infant in.
The mother is eventually mobile enough to sit on the passenger seat where Morreale hands her the precious newborn, adding, “Congratulations to both of you.” The baby can be heard screaming healthily in the background.
The mother and child were taken to the hospital and after a follow-up, emergency services confirmed both of them are doing “great”. The baby boy was named Jack.

“Jack and mom are healthy and appreciative of the outstanding job by our Troopers,” a New Jersey State Police spokesperson said.
