Ireland seems to be a popular hotspot for extraterrestrials, with more reported UFO sightings here than anywhere else in Europe.
Recent data compiled by Psychic World revealed that Ireland tops the list of most UFO sightings on the continent, followed by France and Spain.
Figures show there have been 105 recorded UFO sightings in Ireland, with visits lasting an average of 13 minutes.
The majority of the sightings in Ireland have been described as unexplainable bright lights, while flying discs are the most spotted UFOs around Europe as a whole.
Here we look at the craziest ever UFO sightings in Ireland.
The Pentagon has released three videos showing UFOs
The Pentagon has released three videos showing unidentified flying objects as it hopes to clear up any misconceptions about the footage.
Dublin – October, 2020
The most recent UFO sighting in Ireland was in Dublin back in October when a man putting out his bins noticed some strange lights in the sky.
The stunned homeowner filed a report into the sighting, which stated: “Putting out the bins at 07.10 looking up at a clear dark sky decided to get my glasses (short sighted).
“I first saw a bright dot travelling from north to south saying to myself that’s a satellite. Next another one three seconds later and then for about 40 minutes in sequence a number of travelling dots (as high as a plane would travel).
“After every five or so there would be two dots travelling one behind the other and this happened about three times.
“They didn’t seem like planes too close together, satellites maybe, birds at that height I don’t think so, very strange.”
Waterford – June 2020
Extraterrestrials are also have said to have paid a visit to the south-east of Ireland last year, with a man claiming to have seen ‘three bright lights as a triangle connected together’ flying over 100 miles above the ground in Waterford last June.
The man claimed that the unidentified object ‘would zig zag and stop all of a sudden and then speed up’.
Filing a report into the sighting, the man said that the UFO covered at least 200 square miles and remained in the area for over two hours, ‘dimming and getting brighter’ as it sped up.
Cork – January 2020
A family in Cork claimed to have seen a collection of circular objects in the sky while they were standing on their decking having their morning tea in January of last year.
The family originally believed that the object was a satellite but they quickly discounted that theory as it appeared to be moving too fast.
The group then noticed that there were more objects travelling in a straight line almost equal distances apart and that they appeared to be travelling in formation like a fleet of aircraft.
A report into the ‘unnerving’ sighting revealed that the UFOs also made course corrections as they travelled from horizon to horizon in minutes.
Kerry – 2018
In November, 2018, the Irish Aviation Authority launched an investigation into an unidentified flying object after pilots reported seeing one off the coast of Kerry.
Shannon Air Traffic Control received a call from a British Airways pilot flying from Montreal to Heathrow asking if there were military exercises taking place within the craft’s airspace at the time after the object came up alongside the plane before vanishing at “a very high speed”.
Other aircraft flying in the area reported the same thing.
A Virgin Airlines pilot flying from Orlando to Manchester described the sight as a “meteor or another object making some kind of re-entry”, adding it seemed to be “multiple objects following the same sort of trajectory – very bright from where we were.”
Another pilot said the speed of the UFO was “astronomical, it was like Mach 2”, or twice the speed of sound.
Wicklow – June 2014
A Wicklow resident filed a report into a UFO sighting on June 6, 2014 after spotting a ‘bright light in the sky’ above Rathnew.
The concerned citizen said the bright light got closer and closer then suddenly changed direction as a plane began chasing it.
Filing a report into the strange sighting, the stunned man said: “I don’t believe in things from space. But now I’m freaking out a little. This was something I have never seen before it came from space and it was quick.
“This thing was so far out like the moon then it was about a mile above me.”
Meath – March 2013
One of the most unsettling sightings of a UFO in Ireland occurred in Kells in 2013, when a homeowner heard their dogs barking in the middle of the night and looked out their window to investigate.
The man said that when he checked to see what was causing the commotion, he noticed a huge orange coloured light in the sky which slowly started to get bigger before it eventually got to the size “of about two or three full moons put together”.
It was claimed that the object then began to split into four sections before coming back to one small faded light.
The man claimed that the light seemed to hover in one area for some time whilst it was doing this and as it was splitting up it also looked like it was lowering itself to the ground slowly.
The man said that he watched this strange occurrence unfold for about 45 mins, with the object remaining silent the entire time before it disappeared.
Dublin – September 2012
Back in 2012, a Dubliner reported a strange event after they witnessed “five large fireballs plummeting sideways through the sky” over the Irish capital.
The witness reported seeing two further mini balls of fire “making weird movements” and travelling in an unnatural flight pattern before the objects landed or disappeared.
To add to the mystery, the man said that he detected “a strange odour” after viewing the experience.
Westmeath – November 2011
Another strange occurrence happened in Mullingar in 2011 when a person spotted a red flashing light flying across the sky as they were out walking their dog early in the morning.
The person reported that the object was flying in strange flight paths as it moved up and down, while it also changed speeds a number of times “like it was hovering in the air”.
The shocked dogwalker then flashed a torch towards the object by turning it on and off when suddenly the strange lights “just disappeared”.
Bizarrely, the person came across the same light the following morning and went to take a picture of it with their camera, but as soon as the flash went off the lights disappeared once again.
Mayo – August 2010
One of the spookiest ever UFO sightings occurred in Claremorris in 2010, when a man was out for an evening stroll with his grandmother and noticed a semi-translucent beam of green light coming straight down from the clouds.
The pair were out walking near a lake when they suddenly witnessed the light flashing on and off on a cycle of about three seconds.
Describing their shock at the event, the man revealed in his report into the sighting: “I was with my gran, who is very sceptical about such things, but she was frightened by this, and wanted to get away.
“She described the clouds as having a strange two-dimensional appearance, with the one emitting the beam being dome-shaped.
“The beam went off suddenly and nothing occurred since. My gran is very straight-laced, so to see her so affected is a measure of the strangeness of the event.”
