Upon arrival, they were greeted by a small, terrified pup, whom they affectionately named Odella, in honor of the compassionate truck driver named Odell who had alerted them to her predicament.
As Donna Lochmann, Chief Life Saving Officer at Stray Rescue of St. Louis, approached Odella, the frightened puppy’s tail began to wag, a testament to her resilient spirit despite the trauma she had endured. It became evident that Odella was not only hungry and terrified but also in significant pain due to being hit by a car and sustaining multiple injuries.
“We couldn’t tell at first, but sadly our clinic informed us that she has some significant injuries. X-rays indicate a dislocated hip and broken foot,” the rescue shared on their blog post.

Despite the challenges ahead, Odella’s road to recovery began with urgent medical intervention. Doctors worked tirelessly to address her injuries, including popping her dislocated hip back in place and bandaging it with a splint. Despite a setback with a femur fracture, Odella’s resilience shone through, and after a couple of months, she emerged healthy and whole, able to run again on all fours.
Throughout her journey to recovery, Odella found solace and love in the care of her foster mom, Donna. Already a devoted rescuer of animals, Donna’s bond with Odella was immediate and profound. “She just never left. She came in, unpacked her bags, and that was pretty much it!” Donna fondly recounted.
Now, Odella revels in the joys of a life filled with love, laughter, and companionship. She enjoys the company of her furry siblings and delights in playful romps with her favorite toys and peanut butter kongs.
