A California group called Hope For Paws is always on the lookout for such dogs, but the case of the one they named Bethany was especially shocking.
And while she was all but hairless and barely able to walk when rescuers coaxed her from the streets with some juicy hamburger and pictures from a succession days thereafter show little progress, but by day 36, she’s like a new dog.
Worthy cause: Rescuers found this horribly starved, scared and sickly dog on the streets of Los Angeles
Suffering: She was barely able to stand when she was found and suffered from paws that were painfully swollen
Hungry: Workers from Hope For Paws managed to coax her into their vehicle with some juicy hamburger treats
The amazing transformation begins as Hope For Paws rescuers walk up to the dog, who they find almost too weak to stand and clinging to the shadows to escape the scorching Southern California sun.
A group called the Bill Foundation agreed to take in the stray and handle her adoption if Hope for Paws paid for her extensive medical treatment.
The footage of Bethany’s rescue, which is at times difficult to watch, then shows the arduous process of taking her in and getting her cleaned up.
The water that pools at her painfully swollen paws is a deep brown from all the dirt that clung to what was left of her fur and her infected, bare skin.
Cleanup: The dog was dubbed Bethany and given a much needed bath. So much dirt clung to what remained of her fur and her bare infected skin that it turned the water brown
Early days: Day 2 on the left and day 3 appeared hard for Bethany, who wasn’t used to captivity and who still had the worst of her various illnesses left to fight through
But as early as on day 4 after her rescue, Bethany appeared ready to start a healthy new life with people
Bethany took to her rescuers with ease. Here she is lounging with one of them just five days after they brought her in
A vet diagnosed her with severe mange and with multiple bacterial infections. Her healing could finally begin.
Pictures over the next few days show Bethany struggling to come to grips with her new surroundings and looking as sad as the day she was found.
But slowly she appears to recover. By day 36, just a few weeks after she was found nearly dead on the street, she looks as happy as any family dog ever did.
Only now she needs a family. Bethany is currently in foster care and in search of a forever home to give her the care she so dearly deserves.
Tada! A little over a month after her rescue, Bethany is a new dog
Now that Bethany has fully recovered, the rambunctious pooch needs a forever home to take care of her and let the kind folks who adopted her moved on to help other terribly needy dogs
