Baby elephant rescued by digger after falling 30ft into a well. She then followed Trumpety-Trump

This is the amazing moment a baby elephant was rescued after falling into a 30-feet-deep well in India.

Footage taken in Jharkhand, eastern India, yesterday shows rescuers using excavators to dig a corridor to help the frightened calf escape after it fell into the well on Sunday night.

Once he clambers out of the well and reaches the top of the path, the baby takes off and runs away from his rescuers.

Excavators managed to break the well’s wall and get down to the water line, where the baby elephant was waiting.

As the final digger retreats, the frightened calf can be seen pulling himself out of the water and onto a muddy and hastily constructed path.

The baby then pauses briefly, using his trunk to throw soil in the air in an apparent celebration, before continuing his climb.

The calf is part of a 22-strong herd of elephants based in the Sariya area of the Giridih district.

Forest Department officials are now driving the calf towards to herd to reunite the pack.
