Images captured by James Gifford, a British photographer, display a lioness stalking a baby elephant in Chobe National Park. However, the lioness was not strong enough to defeat her prey without assistance. Despite one lioness jumping onto its back, she was unable to bring it down alone. A second lioness arrived moments later but the window of opportunity had already closed. The calf managed to escape to its herd, and the lionesses retreated when they realized that provoking adult elephants could lead to serious injuries.
