The loyal dogs refused to leave their injured owner’s side and jumped into the ambulance as they were taken to the hospital where they remained by their side

As the old adage goes, dogs are a man’s best friend, and this pair of pet pooches certainly proved their loyalty when they refused to leave their owner’s side as he was taken hospital.

The man, who lives in the central Peruvian coastal city of Chimbote, had been drinking when he fell and hit his he head.

An ambulance was called to take him to hospital, but once it arrived the two dogs jumped in and refused to leave.

Once the ambulance arrived the two dogs jumped in and refused to leave, nestling into their owner on the way to the hospital

The faithful hounds watched as paramedics treated the man on the way to Caleta Hospital, clearly concerned for their owner as they periodically nuzzled up to him to show their affection.

The dogs then jumped down from the vehicle as their owner was taken out of the ambulance on a stretcher, and trotted alongside as they tried to keep up.

The dogs then followed the injured man all the way into the hospital, still refusing to leave their owner’s bedside

As he waited on a stretcher to be treated, one of the dogs jumped up to lie beside him while the other kept a vigil by his bedside

Security footage from the hospital shows dogs nestling up to the man, who appeared to be slipping in and out of consciousness.

As he waited on a stretcher to be treated, his brown dog jumped up to lie beside him, while his cream pet sat faithfully at his bedside looking up at him.

The man was last seen waiting to be seen by doctors – with his two pets still holding their bedside vigil.
